Folded paper cushioning strips / LETTER

A good fit for your idea?

Letter and A4 preserve the component dimensions. Choose the sheet you will print, not a different object size.

Materials and construction

Ordinary paper for a first trial; scissors; ruler; a blunt scoring tool; a small amount of paper adhesive.

Before making a batch

Count 16 internal creases per strip.

Record the open height and the paper sample used.

Check whether the folds permanently collapse.

Four strips: 170 x 24 mm.

Crease pitch: 10 mm.

The compressed height depends on the chosen fold angle.

From file to finished page

Cut all four strips. Keep them separate so each can be positioned independently.
Score every dashed line. Alternate mountain and valley folds to form a concertina.
Open each strip slightly and place it on the bottom of a trial presentation box.
Position a light paper sample on top. Adjust the fold opening until the sample lies evenly.
Remove the sample and inspect crushed folds. Replace deformed strips rather than treating them as protective packaging.
