Materials and construction

Ordinary paper for a first trial; scissors; ruler; a blunt scoring tool; a small amount of paper adhesive.

Before making a batch

Check both loops are similar in depth.

Confirm the centre wrap covers the join without crushing the loops.

Record how the chosen stock curves.

Main piece: 160 x 42 mm maximum.

Backing: 80 x 28 mm.

Centre wrap: 50 x 15 mm.

From file to finished page

  1. Cut the shaped main piece, notched backing and centre wrap.
  2. Curve the left end of the main piece inward to its centre and attach the narrow end behind the middle.
  3. Repeat with the right end. Keep both rounded loops open rather than sharply creasing them.
  4. Attach the completed loops to the notched backing, aligning their centres.
  5. Wrap the narrow centre strip around the join and secure it at the back. Trim only after checking the overlap.
