PDF, SVG, fillable PDF or linked notebook?
File formats describe different capabilities. Choose the one that matches what you want to do rather than assuming every downloadable file is editable in the same way.
Use a static PDF for a ready-made print
A static PDF preserves the prepared page layout. It is the simplest choice when you plan to print and write by hand, trace, cut or fold. Text being selectable does not make it a fillable form. A PDF editor may change a file, but that is different from a supported customization feature.
Choose a fillable PDF for form fields
A fillable edition contains interactive fields. Test an entry, save under a new filename, close and reopen it before completing the whole document. Viewer support varies. Saving only the blank original or printing through a viewer can discard interactivity, so inspect the resulting copy.
Treat SVG as editable vector source
SVG stores shapes and lines rather than just a screenshot. It can be useful in compatible design software. Availability does not certify a cutting-machine workflow: imports can interpret units, groups, open paths or annotation marks differently. Review the particular design before sending it to hardware.
Use linked notebooks for navigation
A linked notebook contains internal destinations such as section tabs and indexes. Those links do not create form fields. Writing or drawing on top depends on the application you choose. Keep the notebook intact unless your software preserves and updates the destinations when pages move.
Prefer a supported tool over improvised editing
Where Paper Dapple offers a personalization tool for a specific resource, use its constrained controls and inspect the resulting file. Do not assume that the tool supports a resource simply because the resource is in the same broad category.
